Johnny Yuma And The Rabbit

Yesterday I drove North along 93 and 318 up toward Ely on my way to Elko. North through a golden October afternoon with the desert grasses tan, red, orange, and green. After Alamo, I was drinking Arizona Green Tea with Honey and Ginseng, eating trail mix, and listening altenately to Sarah Brightman singing operatic Italian and Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire album -- indulging in Walter Mitty fantasies of myself as an ecclesiastical Johnny Yuma. "Dan Edwards was a bishop. He roamed through the West. He packed not star as he wandered far where the only law was a hook and a draw. The bishop. Away, away, away rode the bishop . . . etc."

Night had fallen by Ely. Between Wells and Elko -- it was getting late and I was pretty tired -- I was confronted by a rabbit -- an exceedlingly large rabbit. He was not hippity hopping across the highway. He was standing upright smack dab in the middle of my lane, facing me -- eyeball to eyeball. Which one of us would blink? Who would surrender the lane? Not Jack. I went around him. He never flinched. I bet Johnny Yuma was never stared down by a rabbit.

Today I did my 3rd Roving Workshop on the Eucharist. It was great. We had a good turnout from Elko plus folks from Fallon and Las Vegas. A good time was had by all. Tonight I am trying to finalize the sermon for tomorrow. I have Eucharists in Elko and Eureka with an animal blessing in Eureka.

Happy St. Francis Day everyone. An especially happy Frank's Day to the good folks in Macon, Georgia celebrating their 50th anniversary as a parish -- the youngest Episcopal parish in Macon. Wow.

WOW - talk about a 'combo', Bishop Dan: Sarah Brightman & John Cash! OK, cnfessionties: I think Cecilia Bartolli "is hot"! ;-) Have already given my Christmas wish-list to my daughter & family (in CA) for Ms. Bartolli's DVDs and/or CDs! MY IDE OF A "DREAM OCET of our DECADE: Headliners would be ANDREA BOCLLI ad Ms. BARTOLLI. [In fact, "The Duke" on KJUL-fm "104/oldies", myself and "some others" (who wish to remain anonymous for the present) are working on funding for just such a concert on PBS-TV to be recorded at The Mandalay Bay in LV! That is: GOD WILLING! In the background: Do I hear those four familiar voices from The Highwaymen? Yep, pard! ;-)

BTW - I am wholly responsible for all those "typos" in my prior post; apologies for those who were offended as much as I was to just realize what had been missed in a hurried posting! = = = ITEM NEXT: I'll be arriving in your fair city starting Wednesday morning (on Oct 7th) for the Smithsonian 'Atomic Testing Museum [ATM]' hosting "Spy Plane Programs of Groom Lake" - a..a. AREA 51 -- with a first session convening that same evening, t bemoderted by KLAS-TV/Channel 8 News' GEORGE KNAPP. The two day event at the ATM is simultaneous with (a) special exhibits of most recently DE-CLASSIFIED materials and (b) a timely re-union by "The Road- runners Association" of prior aerospace engineers, planners, builders, ground crews and pilots on the SR-71! "Blackbird" AND ITS SEVERAL, LESSOR KNOWN PREDECESSORS (plural)!

Maybe the rabbit wanted his St. Frnacis Day blessing.

[Using an "Emmer Fudd" soto-voice] = And that 'wascally wabbit' thought this was a new type of Wesleyan prevenient grace! ;-) [Note to the 'unwashed': See the United Methodist Church theologian Bob Tuttle, Jr. essay titled "The Wesleyan Quadri-lateral" for a start on John Wesley's multiple varieties of Grace]!

Ceclia Bartoli is a beautiful woman with an incredibly rich voice. She also seems to have a soul of real depth and authenticity. I don't wonder why you are a fan.

DAN - An Andrea Bocelli & Cecelia Bartolli concert at The Mandalay Bay venue [under-scored by oted impressario David Foster] would be - for me - a dream come true! In fact, "The Duke" at KJUL-fm (104.7 "Oldies") and others are in search of PBS-TV and even some Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding to do such a concert locally. IN FACT = Both FOSTER & BOCELLI have just recently concluded - in Salt Lake City - a new Christmas Season DVD/ CD for sale soon.

I also am wondering if you should have blessed the rabbit. I enjoyed the Johnny Yuma image and the variety of music

ANDREA BOCELLI has a BRAND NEW CD out now = "MY CHRISTMAS" -- with some recording with The Mormon Tabernacle Choir - done just a few weeks(!) ago in Salt Lake City, UT! [Producers got this one into-the-market very fast, indeed]! GREAT GIFT - highly recommended! Since: Canadian ex-pat DAVID FOSTER is the producer! Some other "special guests" on this CD = Mary J. Blige, Natalie Cole, Katherine Jenkins, REBA [Bishop Dan note well - since C&W music lives!] and - get ready 4 this: Featuring "The Muppets" on 'Jingle Bells' - & also featuring "God Bless Us Everyone" from Disney's "A Christmas Carol"! A SLAM DUNK for Chritmas, 2009 - IMHO, y'all! ;-)
